.....thr was a time in Bihar , whn a Doctor used to Complete his Training , & a job in Bihar health services was easily obtainable as Civil asstt. surgeon ; which wud time bound wise lead to the coveted post of Civil surgeon of a District ...as Bihar post Independence was a well run bureaucracy with Officials v dedicated & administration wise Bihar was an example ....thn the gradual slide ......as it happens to any great Civilization .....I had a first hand taste of it whn I entered Patna for my Higher education .....the Institutions post JP Andolan ( agitation of 1974 -75 ) had taken a beating in terms of smooth functioning & a general despondency was prevailing whn I entered in 1980, which aggravated with the passage of each yr.....the job & Career mkt constricted nd stiff Competitions were faced by the average students .....in a way it was hardship as Pvt institutions or Career options in the pvt sector were few as it is now ....a Clerical job evoked huge competition & nepotism crept in selection .....naturally the Bihar health services was not wholly untouched & vacancies of Doctors were not being filled up .....so , for a Medical Graduate , the Golden period of being posted & serving the native state after graduation fumbled....this had a bearing on the Health care , with a deranged doctor to patient ratio, afflicting the Health of the State .....a young Medical graduate is a bundle of energy....impatient to do well professionally ..... armed with a latest curriculum oriented degree & training , so very essential to perform in remote rural areas ....thr is this desire to start work independently , practise the tools of acquired knowledge independently as thr will be lots & variety of cases waiting to be seen ....this opportunity was lost for many a graduate .....Basic Health care @ Primary Health centre & Health posts r a corner stone to a healthy , Citizenry....tru living conditions & facilities r a casualty in remote areas but look at the professional exposure it can subject to the fresh Medical graduate .....thr cannot be a better discipline thn an young medical grad armed with his scientific knowledge taking decisions affecting peoples lives directly .....the Job satisfaction is enormous .....look at the amount of challenges he has to face in limited Capacity & a remote environment ......these challenges will definitely hone the existing skill , a platform for the future tight rope walk of day to day Clinical practise as Doctor's take critical decisions so very imp for the Humanity ....to me serving in a Community gives an ample opportunity to deliver a Comprehensive Healthcare to the people whom U might know by name , face , profession & even being a frnd to a host many fmly .....the Community doctor is a respected , well known entity who emanates a great sense of security to the people around him & a huge , yes a huge Job satisfaction .......A Big thumbs up to Community Practise ....!!!!!
